I've just brought my own car.. I'm 18 years old and have been learning to drive for around 5 months and have my test in 2 months. I have some questions about car insurance.. As I want to be learning to drive for the next 2 months in my own car, I'll need provisional insurance cover, I was quoted around 600 ish for this, including my mum being named second driver. Then when I pass my test, and I update my insurance to full licence, the quotes are around 1500, so will I have to pay the 900 difference? Also, are black boxes ok? The quotes I've got are so much cheaper with black boxes so I'm tempted to get one, but I'd like to know about others experience with them.. What's the positives/negitive and are they worth saving around 500 a year on insurance costs (for the first year anyway) Thanks :)

SR22 Insurance?

My 22 yr old sons car was repossessed. He cancelled his car insurance policy since he no longer owns a car. He was required to carry an SR22 because of a bad driving record. The California DMV will suspend his license if he does not have proof of car insurance. Hes not driving and plans to not own a vehicle for the next 6 months. How does he meet the California DMV requirements without purchasing a car insurance policy? Also, if were able to get an older vehicle and get liability insurance only on it and add the SR22 can it satisfy the California DMV? My son is desperately trying to clean up his driving record too. Even if literally purchases an older vehicle and never drives it just to meet his DMV requirement. Will his past actions of too many tickets and accidents ever stop haunting him? Finally, his car was stolen in mid 2013. The car was reported stolen and it was eventually recovered and the insurance did repair significant damages does this also count against his driving record? The damage to the vehicle all occurred after it was stolen. I'm sorry I have so many questions I'm just at a loss. I need to get him back on his feet within a year but I need to know he will be able to drive too. He realizes now he messed up. He's got a great job and makes good money but I want to make sure that these past mistakes do not haunt him forever. The good news is there are no DUI's or reckless driving. Thanks for any help!

If I get into an accident (salvage / rebuilt title) how much of my cars worth will the insurance company pay?

I have a 99 GST Turbo Convertible Eclipse Spyder that I bought a few years ago with a Rebuilt Salvage title. You would not even be able to tell that it was in an accident. It looks great. I have been putting a lot of money in the car fixing it up (making it look nice and faster) and one of my friends told me the other day that if something happened to my car I would get practically nothing since it has a Rebuilt Salvage title. Is this True? I have only had liability since I bought it and this has never came up before. So assuming that I get hit tomorrow by a car that is insured and it totals out my car, how much of my car's worth would I get? What about all the money in parts and accessories that I put into it?

I've seen some on TV and for the life of me, I can't remember all of what's out there. So far, there is no life insurance on my husband's mother and he and I are wanting to take out life insurance on her. What kind of life insurance is out there for ppl 70 years and up that does not require a medical background? She has a bad hip, smokes like a turned over train, and she hasn't had a physical in aprox. 15-20 years. And she has no assets of any kind to help with expenses if she should pass unexpectantly. I just got into a car accident & I was at fault. It appeared to be minor, based on the small dent in the other person's car, but the couple both have soft tissue injuries. I was in a car accident. An suv hit me (perpendicular to my drivers side), which made me hit a mazda and it spun out of control. The suv that started the accident RAN OFF! They did not realize their license plate fell off and they actually filed a claim saying they were hit in a parking lot! Anyways, it totalled my car so my insurance co is giving me $6200 for my car, but deducting $500 for my deductibl because at first we could not find who was driving the vehicle. Now the drivers insurance company has contacted me wanting to meet to discuss how much money they are going to give me. He said they will be giving me money for my deductible, medical bills, missing work, missing school, inconvience, stresss and pain and suffering. We are meeting today to negotiate the amount. I am not sure what is a reasonable amount, my friends told me $5400 - 8,000. I'd like about $6000-$7000. Do you think this is right?

Oh right lol my query is as follows .. In July 2012 my daughter took out a pay monthly insurance policy with close premium 139 per month which was paid from my bank account every month on time for 12 months. When due for renewal August 2013 the insurance company sent her a quote saying payments were 168 per month! In view of this she decided not to insure her car and didn't use it. Shortly afterwards she receives a letter from close premium saying Hastings insurance could cover her for 100 per month but she never accepted this offer. In September 2013 Hastings took payment from my account so I contacted bank and recalled the payment. She now has a recovery agency acting on behalf of Hastings claiming she owes 400 . I can't see how she owes this money ? Do we have to pay this when we never accepted the policy and close premium passed on my bank details without my knowledge ? ( hope this makes sense)

Mechanical Breakdow Insurance refuses to pay...?

Hi and thanks for taking time to help me out. I have bought a BMW 540i (1997) back in January. I was really happy as this was my first car. Two weeks ago, I was driving to France and my gearbox died leaving me only with the first gear working. I went to a garage in France and we phoned the insurance but the insurance said that it cannot guarantee that it would cover me. They offered me to leave the car in France and to go back to London by myself. I refused to consider this option as I could not allow my self to stay in France (I had to go back to work) for more than the week-end and I could not afford to take the train/plane from Paris to London. The insurer said that they would not cover any costs associated with me going back to London. So I had to get the car back to London, and to drive it back home. I went to a garage where a very nice person accepted to take care of the car. He phoned the insurance and arranged everything. The insurer sent some engineers who inspected the car and the insurance said to the garage that they would only cover 65% of the costs...due to the mileage of the car (83,000 miles roughly). The garage has repared the car without asking me if I was ok to pay the last 35% and the insurer did not mention it to me either. I am going to call the insurance tomorrow to get more details about this story...but my concern is that : 1/ I am afraid of talking to them and to commit a mistake that could cost me more 2/ I don't know exactly what I am entitled to get and what are my resources in case they just refuse to change anything on this 3/ They ask me to pay the money upfront (around 2,000) and then I would have to make a claime but...I don't feel confident doing this..and I am far from having this money... I am really looking for help and advice here, I hope that someone will be able to assist, Thanks a lot, and have a very good evening
